Honoring the U.S. Coast Guard

Flag Raising to commemorate 236 years of service

On Tuesday, August 4, the City of Litchfield Park hosted a special flag-raising ceremony in honor of the 236th anniversary of the United States Coast Guard.

Pastor Kris and Pastor Brenda were honored to attend the ceremony and join with others in showing appreciation for the Coast Guard and its longstanding commitment to protecting our nation, saving lives, and serving others.

The ceremony brought members of the community together to recognize and celebrate the men and women who have served and continue to serve in the U.S. Coast Guard. We are grateful for opportunities like this to come together, remember the sacrifices of those who serve, and express our appreciation for the many ways they make a difference in the lives of others.

Abide!

Abide!

"Abide in me, and I in you." — John 15:4 - Saturday, August 29, 2026

Join us on Saturday, August 29 | 2:00–4:00 p.m.

As summer comes to a close and a new ministry season begins, we invite you to set aside a couple of hours to pause, reconnect, and prepare your heart for all that God has in store this fall.

Join the women of CLP for an afternoon of fellowship, encouragement, laughter, meaningful conversation, and, of course, delicious food. Together we'll spend time connecting with one another, reflecting on God's faithfulness, and looking ahead to the opportunities He has for us to grow, serve, and abide in Him through the busy months ahead.

Whether you've been part of Women@CLP for years or you're looking for a place to connect for the very first time, we'd love for you to join us. Bring a friend, meet new women, and leave encouraged for the season ahead.

This gathering will also provide an opportunity to learn more about our upcoming Abide Bible study and connect with other women as we prepare to begin a new season of growing together in God's Word.

Come expectant. Come hungry—for good food, meaningful friendships, and God's Word. We can't wait to spend the afternoon with you!

Women@CLP: Abide Bible Study

Join us as we study 1, 2, and 3 John! - Tuesday, September 8, 2026

Abide: A Study of 1, 2 & 3 John by Jen Wilkin

There are few things more important for believers today than learning how to recognize truth, remain rooted in Christ, and love one another well. In a world filled with competing voices, uncertainty, and division, the letters of 1, 2, and 3 John call us back to what matters most: abiding in Jesus.

Beginning this September, Women@CLP invites you to join us for Abide, a 10-week Bible study by respected Bible teacher and author Jen Wilkin. Together, we'll walk verse by verse through John's three letters, discovering how they continue to speak powerfully to the Church today. Written to believers facing deception, doubt, and division, John's message encourages us to remain steadfast in the truth of God's Word, find assurance in our salvation, and reflect Christ's love in our daily lives.

Whether you are new to Bible study or have spent years studying Scripture, this study will deepen your understanding of God's Word and strengthen your confidence in living faithfully as a disciple of Jesus. Our prayer is that each woman will grow in her love for Christ, develop greater discernment in an age of confusion, and experience the joy and assurance that come from abiding in Him.

Update on Scout Lodge

Update on Scout Lodge

Litchfield Park Scout Lodge

Behind the Watt House is the historic Litchfield Park Scout Lodge, built by Mr. Litchfield in 1954. Mr. Litchfield of Goodyear Tire and Rubber was introduced to scouting in 1909 and was so impressed that he opened Scout troops everywhere Goodyear had company personnel.

This is what Mr. Litchfield wrote in his book The Industrial Voyager in 1958:

“I have sometimes thought too, that if every nation had utilized the basic values of scouting as America had done, that boys everywhere had grown up with these common ideals, world peace and understanding might not be the impossible goal it often seems now. The brotherhood of man starts with the brotherhood of boys.”

Litchfield Park was one of those places. Troop 90 was chartered in 1929 for the Goodyear Farm families, and for several years our church was its charter organization. Just ask Fran Grumbling!

Mr. Litchfield built the Lodge in 1954 as part of his commitment to provide a meeting place for the troops. Troop 99 was chartered in 1943 when Mr. Litchfield opened Goodyear Aircraft Corporation. Those scouting dads built their lodge on the corner of Litchfield Road and Western. When it was converted to Goodyear City Hall, Troop 99 moved to the Litchfield Park Scout Lodge.

It’s been said that this area has one of the highest concentrations of scouting in the Phoenix area. I feel that is due, in part, to the scouts having ownership of a “Lodge.” On any given week, between the two Boy Scout troops, the Cub Scout packs, and the Girl Scouts, more than 300 scouts meet and learn in the Scout Lodge.

I don’t have the number of Gold Awards earned by the Girl Scouts, but between the two Boy Scout troops, 276 boys have earned their Eagle Scout Award. Many of their projects have focused on improving the local environment and meeting other community needs.

With the progress in our new downtown, the City needs more parking. The plan is to raze the historic Scout Lodge and build a three-story parking garage. Yes, we were sad and tried every way possible to move the old Lodge, but it was simply not stable enough.

The scout families seized the opportunity to build a new, safer, larger, and long-lasting Scout Lodge in Scout Park. It’s a $1.3 million project and we are actively looking for business and community partners to help ensure the future of Scouting in Litchfield Park.

The plan is to start the build at the beginning of the year. The City is willing to hold off on its project until we are ready to open the new Lodge. We plan to use the old roof tiles, the fireplace bricks, and hopefully the old interior beams to retain that familiar Lodge look.

Stay tuned—this is going to be an exciting project!
